How To Apply Olympic Pool Coatings

Once you have followed the correct surface preparation procedures for your swimming pool, you will be ready to apply your new surface. Surface preparation is the key to a successful finish.

Important Safety Note

Always use proper personal protective equipment before starting your project. Follow all product label directions and safety data sheet recommendations.

Epoxy Coatings

Poxolon 2 & Zeron

Use the appropriate primer on bare surfaces. When recoating old epoxy, dull glossy areas by sanding before applying.

Apply with a 9" solvent-resistant roller. Poxolon 2 usually receives two coats; Zeron requires one liberal coat.

Rubber-Base

Paralon 2 & Optilon

Make sure the pool surface is 100% dry before application. Trapped moisture can cause blistering.

Rubber-base finishes require two coats. On bare surfaces, thin the first coat 20% with No. 1111 VOC Compliant Solvent.

Acrylic Coatings

Hydrolon

Hydrolon is a water-reducible acrylic enamel and can be applied directly to a damp surface after cleaning.

On bare surfaces, thin the first coat 10% with water. After completely drying, apply the second coat full strength.

Cure Times & Coverage

Allow coatings to cure fully before filling the pool. Cooler temperatures and high humidity may extend curing times.
